Associated Press reports today that a group of conservatives in the US House of Representatives are searching for unity as they try to finalize health care legislation. Representative Mark Meadows (R-NC) said, “Currently there are not enough votes to pass it in the House”. Meadows is the leader of an influential group of conservatives and it is reported that his wife, Debbie, sent out an email urging opposition to the bill. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) said that during a presentation, clips were played from US President Donald Trumps’ joint session speech and that they were “very unconvincing”. The group of conservative lawmakers are calling the new legislation “Obamacare Light” and reject the system of refundable tax credits. Instead, they are seeking only to repeal former US President Barak Obama’s Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare.
