Reuters news agency reports today that Jordanian soldier, Ahmad Daqamseh, who opened fire on a group of Israeli school girls, has been freed after serving only 20 years in jail. The report states that many people in Jordan are celebrating his release. Daqamseh was found guilty in 1997 of opening fire on the group of Israeli schoolchildren killing seven of them before other soldiers seized him. The report also states Daqamseh became a hero to many Jordanians who are vehemently opposed to the country’s peace treaty with Israel.
