Islamic State Commander Killed in Mosul

Reuters news agency reports that Abu Abdul Rahman al-Ansary, an Islamic State Commander, was killed by Iraqi forces in Mosul’s Old City. The death of the commander comes as the Iraqi forces battle for the Iron Bridge that crosses the Tigris River linking eastern and western Mosul. Snipers are hindering the advance of the Iraqi troops according to the Reuters report. As civilians streamed out of the city with only what they could carry, Iraqi forces were seen loading them in trucks to be evacuated to processing areas. Although 200,000 people have fled Mosul, 600,000 remain in the city which Iraq has battled to take since October.
