As reported by the Associated Press today, McDonald’s fast food restaurants will be using mobile order and pay as well as in store kiosks to improve customer satisfaction. In the report, ordering in the traditional way by going to a counter and speaking with someone has been found to be stressful. The report did not detail how these “initial stages” of ordering are stressful or if it has recently become more stressful than the previous 60 years of the food chain’s operation. Although McDonald’s has stated it will ease lines at the counter, it did not mention how it will avoid the shift of the line from the order placing counter to the pick up counter as experienced by Starbucks. The mobile order and pay is currently being tested in states on the west coast of the US.
