The Associated Press reports that the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack on London, England. The AP report stated that yesterday’s attack killed three and wounded 29. However, British Prime Minister Theresa May in a speech before the House of Commons said today, “At approximately 2.40pm yesterday, a single attacker drove his vehicle at speed into innocent pedestrians who were crossing Westminster Bridge, killing two people and injuring around 40 more.” Prime Minister May went on to say that a police officer was stabbed and also killed during the attack.
The British attacker, 52 year old Khalid Masood, was shot and killed by police during the attack. Masood was previously under investigation for religious extremism and had criminal convictions. Ending her speech boldly, Prime Minister May said, “The streets are as busy as ever. The offices full. The coffee shops and cafes bustling. As I speak, millions will be boarding trains and aeroplanes [sic] to travel to London, and to see for themselves the greatest city on Earth. It is in these actions, millions of acts of normality, that we find the best response to terrorism, a response that: denies our enemies their victory, that refuses to let them win, (and) that shows we will never give in.”
In a tweet, US President Donald Trump said:
“Spoke to U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May today to offer condolences on the terrorist attack in London. She is strong and doing very well.”
