The Associated Press reports today that former US Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Clint Watts “fears for his own safety after speaking about Russian efforts”. Watts is with the Foreign Policy Research Institute Program on National Security. He went on to say there have been Russians killed in the past three months in Russia and “western countries” according to the report. Watts also said the Russians killed were tied to the investigation into Kremlin disinformation activities as stated by the AP.
It was unclear from the report who the Russians were, how they were tied to the meddling investigation, or why they were even killed. The report from AP went on to hint at disinformation spread in the United States during the 2016 presidential elections but did not give examples of what information was spread and how it effected the elections.
