House Ethics Committee Investigates Nunes

In a report issued by Reuters news agency, the US House Ethics Committee has chosen to investigate Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA) on allegations of unauthorized disclosures and House rules violations. According to the report, Democrats have disapproved of how Representative Nunes received information at the White House, referred to it in a press briefing, and informed President Donald Trump before sharing it with members of the House committee.

The report further states Representative Nunes, who is the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, was temporarily stepping down from the investigation into Russian meddling of the US presidential election of 2016. In a statement, Representative Nunes said the charges are “entirely false and politically motivated” and wanted to “expedite the dismissal of these false claims.”

This latest distraction from the Russian meddling probe came during the same week former US President Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, was accused of viewing raw intelligence data that led to the unmasking of the identities of private US citizens.
