The Associated Press reports today that 100 are dead and 80 wounded after an attack on a military compound in northern Afghanistan. According to the report, militants wearing Afghanistan’s army uniforms used military vehicles to enter the base in Balkh Province. Military officials said two of the ten attackers wore suicide vests and the other eight were killed during gun battles.
In an email sent to media, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the assault. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani traveled to the base on Saturday condemning the attack and said, “The attackers are infidels.”
