Wikipedia Banned in Turkey

Reuters news agency reports today that Turkey has blocked their nation’s access to the Wikipedia website. BTK, an abbreviation for Turkey’s Telecommunication Authority issued a statement saying, “After technical analysis and legal consideration…an administrative measure has been taken for this website.” According to the report, BTK also cited a law that allows it to block access to individual web pages or entire websites for the protection of public order, national security or the well-being of the public. This action comes on the heels of a referendum that increased Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s powers and as the nation steps up attacks on ethnic Kurds in Iraq, Syria and within its own borders.
