US Must “Do Something Very Different” in Afghanistan

The Associated Press reports today that US Defense Intelligence Agency director Lieutenant General Vincent Stewart gave a grim assessment of the US military’s state of affairs in war torn Afghanistan. The Marine Corps general stated, “Left unchecked, that stalemate will deteriorate in the favor of the belligerents. So, we have to do something very different than what we have been doing in the past.”

According to the report, the US has about 8,400 troops in Afghanistan. General John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, said he needs about 3,000 more  troops.
