The Associated Press reports today that Kurdish-led forces are closing in on the Islamic State held city of Raqqa, Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Syrian Democratic Forces seized about 115 miles (186 kilometers) of land north of the city in their advance in the last four days. The pincer maneuver from the northeast and northwest brings the SDF 2.5 miles (4 km) from the city. US President Donald Trump’s administration has promised to arm the Kurdish-led forces with heavy weapons. The Islamic State has held the Raqqa since they declared it their capital in 2013.
