Venezuela’s Protests in Sixth Week

Reuters news agency reports today that protesters around Venezuela have blocked roads in an effort to keep pressure on socialist President Nicolas Maduro. Now in its sixth week, 39 people have died and hundreds have been wounded. The protests have attracted hundreds of thousands of people mostly from low income ares, however, the main protests have been taking place in middle class areas. President Maduro says he is the victim of an international right wing conspiracy. The European Union is calling for new elections to address the Venezuelan crisis.
