Manning Free After Serving 7 out of 35 Years

The Associated Press reports today that four months after former US President Barack Obama granted clemency, Chelsea Manning, formerly known as army Private Bradly Manning, walked free from the US Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. After serving only 7 years out of a 35 year sentence, Manning plans on moving back to Maryland this summer. Manning, a former intelligence analyst in Iraq, was court marshaled in 2013 and convicted of 20 counts including Espionage Act violations, theft and computer fraud. Manning’s name changed from Bradly to Chelsea in prison due to Manning’s self identification with that of a woman.
